The Phantom of the Opera

So, I finished The Phantom of the Opera last night, and I must say that while it was a good book, the convenience of being able to see it rather than read it has somewhat ruined it for me.

The book was great overall. It was the perfect mix of adventure and mystery and romance, but there was just something about it. I think part of it was the redundancy of some of the stories. (There were several stories told over more than once from a different persons perspective.) Maybe it was the unbelievable long explanations of certain aspects of the story which I found already obvious. Whatever it may have been, as much as I loved seeing it live when it came to Des Moines and as much as I like the movie, it literally took me over a month to fight my way through the book.

If you want to read the book I think you'll find it intriguing, but be warned that there are pieces along the way that you will find daunting. It will probably serve you better if you haven't seen it in some medium or another, but if you have and you still feel the need to read it, by all means, please do!

After all, the journey all depends on the person taking it, right?
